Long Military-Style BDU Shorts

Again, Summer is upon us, and while I don’t always think its a good idea to wear shorts (I mean, I still wear jeans, even in the hotter months…never can be too careful), if you do choose to sport them, at least you can pull on some Long BDU Military Shorts. Wind resistant, quick drying and breathable, these shorts have plenty of pockets to carry additional survival gear, and look somewhat stylish on the move. While your legs are still exposed, at least the inseams are cut longer on these to provide a bit of protection against some zombie splash damage when you’re swinging your machete at their necks.

We found a few items that we discussed earlier from TShirtBordello.com, so I think we should point out something that focuses on looking good while you’re out there crushing zombie skulls. There are quite a few fun and clever designs (zombie-related and just plain geek-friendly) that you can stock up on, so you don’t have to run around sporting the same joke garment as yesterday. While I’m generally sporting a helpful shirt reminding everyone of Rule #2, It’s always nice to have the option to represent Al Bundy with a Polk High jersey while going all “Psycho Dad” on the zeds as well. Of course relaxing with a nice cup’o'joe afterwards with a cool but ironic “I heart zombies” mug is always nice too.

We don’t post many fashion tips at Zprepared, unless you’re talking about protective gear and clothing, but when one of our good friends designs a shirt that not only promotes Zombie awareness but also is disturbingly sexy, we have to post about it. Tattoo artist Simon Hayag has designed a Tee for Sullen Clothing that will look good in any wardrobe, Zombie aficionado or not. Made from 100% cotton, this Tee will do little to protect from the hungry jaws of the Undead, but maybe it will distract them just long enough to get away.

Fighter pilots are familiar with the phrase “Speed is life”. Never let your speed drop, or you’re risking being out maneuvered or put in a bad situation. Urban zombie survival could learn a lot from this mantra. If you’ve got to get around quickly, you don’t want something as simple as keeping stuff in your hip pockets slowing you down. American Parkour’s APK Combat Trainers allow you to keep all your gear in the sealable upper thigh pockets where they don’t restrict your movement, and stay secure on your person during crazy evasive movement. Autumn is right around the corner, which means for most of us the beginning rain, wind, and the cold season. For those of use who live where it gets really cold, it marks the time of year where Zsurvivalist can breath a sigh of relief as it’s just a few more months before the Undead will immediately become Zombie-cicles when exposed to the elements.
It’s also a good time to start looking for outerwear that offers good weather protection, decent mobility, and can take the rigors of living in an Undead world. The Nike Storm-FIT M-65 Jacket is good choice for those in need of a versatile jacket for the upcoming months. It features Storm-FIT fabric that repels wind, rain and snow without being too bulky. It also has a packable hood at the collar to keep rain and wind off you head and out of your face. It may not be the warmest jacket for sub-zero temps, but layering is always an option, and a good idea anyway.

Combat and hiking boots are great for trekking and day to day wear but when navigating city areas, it might be a good idea to wear more flexible footwear. One thing you can’t have enough of in the Zombie apocalypse is pockets. It’s important that you can get to your gear, where you need it, when you need it. The Ogio Flight Vest has more than enough pockets to spare. Back tool storage pockets, dual side expansion buckles, goggle pockets, multifunctional pockets, multiple adjustment points, tool organizer, zippered chest pocket; this thing has it all. It even has a 70 oz. hydration reservoir so there’s no need to stop to open your canteen.
I can personally attest to the merits of this one, as I own one that is fully stocked with my personal Zprepared gear; with the straps and buckles pinned down of course.

Blade Runner Slash-Proof Hooded Top

Just because you’re wearing armor doesn’t mean you have to look like you’re geared up to play Catcher for the Yankee’s. A lot of that stuff could weigh you down and all those straps and buckles just give the Zombies more to grab onto. You also have to consider that going to work and out to a bar in you’re Zombie protective suit makes you look like a fool before Z-Day.
That’s why until then, we suggest you wear the Slash-Proof Hooded Top from Blade Runner. This innocuous sweat shirt looks like your standard fair, but hidden under it’s cool exterior is a lining of Level 2 slash tested woven Kevlar. If it’s good enough to stop a blade from cutting your tender flesh, it’s more than enough to stop the clawing and biting of a hungry ghoul. Just one word of advice: Make sure you tuck the hood in when the outbreak occurs.
