The idea of putting a bayonet on your pistol may seem like a joke, but no one will be laughing when a zombie gets too close for comfort, the moment you fire your last round in the magazine. The Laserlyte Pistol Bayonet is a worthy CQC fallback when the slide locks back in the middle of the action. Sporting a razor sharp Ka-Bar blade that can easily punch its way through an undead eye socket, you can still fend off an attacker long enough to slap a fresh magazine into your favorite rail-equipped pistol. You never have to worry about having to switch between bullets and blades again! The clear answer is obviously bring both.

Many self-professed zombie survival experts seem to agree that a sword is one of the better weapons to keep on your person when dealing with the undead in hand to hand combat. However, too many of them discount the effectiveness of classic European sword designs. A ZPrepared favorite, Cold Steel has once again caught our eye with the Hand and a Half Sword (also know as a Bastard sword), a highly effective and versatile old school design that has reigned supreme on many a battlefield. This design allows you to easily use one or two hands, and can remove a zombies head and limbs in a single swipe. Plus the point still allows you to effectively stab, utilizing the full length of the weapon. Yeah the Katana is still a cool weapon, but great swords are easily found all over the world.

Many zombie survival experts tend to lean towards some hardcore tools and weapons, like swords and crowbars, but most of us here at ZPrepared prefer a rugged combat knife. It’s not the greatest weapon against the undead (firearms can’t really be beat in most cases), but the sheer versatility can’t be argued. It’s a tool and a weapon, they’re always easy to carry, and chances are, you’ve always got one on your person. So when we saw the Boker KAL 10 Fixed Blade fighting knife, this was an easy choice to add to the site. A knife as rugged and tough as the Automat Kalashnikov, with just as much style belongs here. The thumb notch and grip make it perfect for combat handling, and the point is tailor-made to punch right through to the cash and prizes of a zombie’s cranium.

So maybe initial tests of Sticky Foam as a less than lethal anti-personel tactic fell flat, the U.S. military is exploring further uses of the stuff as a deterrent against vehicles. However, this stuff has always had promise against the living dead. Zombies aren’t so fleet of feet, so a good dose of the sticky stuff would halt their progress rather effectively. The only thing really holding it back as a great anti-shambling-personel device was the lackluster initial results against real living (and agile) people. Now that the government is looking for alternative uses, there will be a potential for any slick survivalist worth their salt to get their hands on a Sticky Foam delivery system to put up some decent barriers preventing the needless showering of zed entrails and fluids in self defense situation. Less than lethal Z-Defense if you will.

A good carbine is something any zombie survivalist would love to have slung to their shoulder when clearing a location, or moving though the tight urban ruins. Most carbines are chambered in the 5.56mm NATO round (the classic bullet used by the M-16), but in recent times many have felt in a carbine with the shortened barrel, the 5.56 doesn’t have the punch that it usually has when fired from a longer 24 inch barrel. Enter the 6.8mm Special Purpose Cartridge (SPC), delivering 44% more energy than a 5.56 NATO when fired from the same barrel length (16 inches), the six-eight gives you the power you need to put rounds through zombie skulls, even if you have to get through the wall in front of you first. The Bushmaster 6.8 SPC rifle uses a slightly modified magazine and upper receiver to allow you to fire the 6.8 SPC from a familiar weapon system (the M4/AR-15 framework), reducing your learning curve when the z’s pile up at your door. the Bushmaster 6.8 SPC has a 16 inch M4 profile barrel allowing you to move through cramped areas and still bring your weapon into play. Plus the 6.8mm gives you more power than the 5.56 NATO, but is still far more controllable than the 7.62mm fired from heavier rifles.

We’ve helped you stock your weapons cache with all kinds of rifles and long arms as well as a couple of pistols, but you should also think about packing an effective sub machine gun out in the zombie playgrounds as well. The KRISS Super V Vector SBR/SO should fill that role nicely, we think. Most of our favorite SMGs fire the ever popular 9mm, but you want the option to bring the thunder without spoiling your aim while unleashing the full auto fury. The Vector fires the manly (not Manley) .45 ACP, but the Super V system reduces felt recoil by 60% as well as reducing muzzle climb by a whopping 95%. Yes, that means you can put the slugs right where you need them, even when firing full auto at 1000 rounds per minute. Take that, Zed!

What!? All this time bringing you great products to survive the Z Apocalypse, and we’ve never talked about chainsaws?! Well that’s something we aim to remedy right now. It’s relatively well known that a good chainsaw is handy in a heavy, close-quarters zombie situation, so we’re not going to bother with the rest…we’re only bringing you the best. The Husqvarna 3120 XP is the meanest, biggest, most rugged bad boy you can swing when you’re seriously caught in a crowd of zeds.

Designed to pull chains on the longest bars Husqvarna has to offer, up to 6 feet! That’s plenty of clearing surface when you’ve got to mow down some serious reanimated corpses. I mean we’re talking limbs, heads, and even the toughest of torsos, plus you don’t have to worry about getting stuck in trees, poles or walls. The Smart Start, LowVib and other ergonomic features makes this heavy duty z killer easy to operate.

I suppose you could use it to clear trees too…

Some just feel more comfortable with the 9mm in a life or death situation. Sure the big daddy .45 will put larger holes in decaying skulls, making sure there’s less gray matter left in the brain pan, but you’ve got to hit your target first.

Springfield Arms is brings a serious competitor for anyone serious about making sure your rounds find the mark. Their XD(M) pistol in 9mm does a great job of putting the holes right where you want them. The Convex shape prevents undead flailing and grabbing limbs from reaching around and getting a grip on your clothing or extremities.
