Designed by Tiger McKee and manufactured by Red Jacket Firearms, the Shootrite Katana is a beautifully minimal carbine, perfect for zombie apocalypse survivors often finding themselves in tight stuffy areas. Coming in a just over 5 pounds and sporting a carbon fiber handguard with 16 inch barrel, the Shootrite Katana maneuvers and performs very well in a variety of ranges. Even after a long day, this lightweight doesn’t fatigue you, or slow you down when you need to jump into battle with the heavyweights.

GSG-522

GSG-522

Packing light is essential to maintain a faster rate of travel, and prevent fatigue, but if you’re packing a firearm, you’ve got to carry enough ammunition to protect yourself, otherwise you’re just carrying dead weight. A boatload of .45 ACP, or even 9mm ammunition can tip the scales in fatigue’s favor, so choosing the right weapon with the right round could prove useful. Enter the German Sports Guns GSG-522, a high quality and stylish sub-machine chambered in .22lr. A nice light round that lets you carry more ammunition than most guns, the .22lr still has the ability to get the job done, and this puppy comes with a 22 round magazine (see what they did there? You can also sport a drum magazine as well). Plus, a lighter round, means lighter recoil, which helps with your shot placement. I’m not saying you should forsake the 9 milli, or the beastly forty-five, but sometimes you have to sacrifice stopping power for speed and mobility. The GSG-522 is a nice sexy piece of hardware that makes the choice a little more enticing.

Survival when dealing with larger hordes of zombies in heavily infested areas is all about mobility. If you find yourself required to move through urban areas and need to get in and out of buildings fast to stay on the move then you need to make sure you’ve got the Blackhawk UK M.O.E. Entry Kit strapped to your back. Even if you just need a quick easy way into a building to grab supplies and get out, this pack will fulfill your needs. This bad boy comes standard with the Super Boltmaster for making short work of locks and fences, the CQB Ram for bringing the door down, and the Hallagan Tool for break and rake window entry. All of these tools are non-sparking and non-conductive to 100,000 volts AC, so no need to worry about accidentally setting off any spilled fuel, or killing yourself by hitting an exposed wire. Safety is the key here when you’re busting into ruins for supplies.

Sticky Foam Weapons get new Lease on [un]Life (via Wired)

So maybe initial tests of Sticky Foam as a less than lethal anti-personel tactic fell flat, the U.S. military is exploring further uses of the stuff as a deterrent against vehicles. However, this stuff has always had promise against the living dead. Zombies aren’t so fleet of feet, so a good dose of the sticky stuff would halt their progress rather effectively. The only thing really holding it back as a great anti-shambling-personel device was the lackluster initial results against real living (and agile) people. Now that the government is looking for alternative uses, there will be a potential for any slick survivalist worth their salt to get their hands on a Sticky Foam delivery system to put up some decent barriers preventing the needless showering of zed entrails and fluids in self defense situation. Less than lethal Z-Defense if you will.

X6 Draganflyer UAV

Scouting ahead isn’t always a smart thing to do in areas with clusters of shambling undead. It’s dangerous, takes a lot of manpower, and is mentally draining on your group. You need some eyes in the sky in the hard-to-scout urban ruins. Why not slap a camera on the X6 Draganflyer 6 rotor UAV and put some eyes high up where you can actually see that crowd of zombies waiting in line for the midnight release of your brains. The x6 is expendable, reliable and easy to fly. You can mount any type of surveillance equipment to suit your needs, whether its a still camera, a high resolution camcorder, night vision or thermal imaging (not that zombies put out much heat), giving you some serious versatility that would take a lot more manpower and coordination on the ground. I think the biggest plus for me is the anti-vibration camera mount, so I don’t have to worry about getting sick like we’re recording the sequel to the Blair Witch, or Cloverfield. Just one more thing to be thankful for.

The Zombie Survival Guide is a wonderful book about surviving against the Zombie outbreak, but it really doesn’t go into detail about surviving the other aspects of life that inevitably comes with it. Penned by the founder and director of the internationally recognized Aboriginal Living Skills School, this book contains several helpful tips and tidbits on how to deal with an urban disaster.
“From the basics such as shelter, water, food, survival kits, and first-aid, to survival exotics such as building a makeshift toilet, catching rodents for food, and safely disposing of a corpse, When All Hell Breaks Loose is the first book to concisely and humorously outline a simple survival system using everyday household items to survive catastrophes from Los Angeles to Paris and everywhere in between.”

Stinger 20×36 Electronic Shield – Convex

Barricades are great for keeping zombies at bay, but when your out in the field you can’t bring your fortifications with you. Stinger Systems Ice Electrified Shield gives you a portable barricade that you can use to keep any unwanted visitors back. The Convex shape prevents undead flailing and grabbing limbs from reaching around and getting a grip on your clothing or extremities. The bonus of this shield is the ability to shock any living threats with the flip of a switch. Not all your problems are of the undead variety. Great for urban exploration with two person teams.
